About eating disorder therapy
Eating disorders carry higher medical risk than most mental health concerns — for severe presentations, coordination with a physician or dietitian may be necessary alongside therapy. Family-Based Treatment (FBT), CBT-E, and DBT are the most evidence-supported approaches. Generic counselling experience is not sufficient for complex eating disorder treatment.
What to look for: Ask whether the therapist has specific eating disorder training and experience, not just general exposure. For adolescents, family-based approaches are typically preferred over individual therapy alone.
About Beltline
The Beltline is Calgary's most densely populated neighbourhood, stretching south of the downtown core along 17th Avenue SW. Its mix of residential towers, converted heritage buildings, and street-level commercial space makes it home to a wide variety of therapy practices. The area is well-served by transit and highly walkable, with many practitioners offering flexible scheduling to accommodate the neighbourhood's younger, urban demographic.
