Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) was originally developed for borderline personality disorder and is now considered first-line treatment for chronic suicidality, self-harm, and severe emotional dysregulation. It combines cognitive-behavioural techniques with mindfulness and acceptance practices, taught across four core skill areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
